Ayurveda, Medicine - Whole Health

I want to take this space to talk a bit about the Whole Health program that I am certified to teach. Ayurveda means simply the study (or science) of life. It is the health/medical part of the Vedas (studies/sciences) which underpin the religions such as Hinduism and Buddhism. If you can imagine, about five thousand years ago, early civilization did not have governments the way many countries have them now, more often it was religious guidance and practice that organized a society. I do not currently practice a particular religion and when you use the teachings of Ayurveda it doesn’t mean you are practicing the Hindu religion or Buddhism, or any religion. You can have your own beliefs and still learn about Whole Health: the integration of Ayurveda and modern medicine.

Personally, I am always open to learn about spirituality, health & well being, and how I can positively contribute to the evolution of human life. I also have respect for elders and ancestors and love learning about all history. I like understanding the context to why we are here now, understanding the whole story, if I can.  I am not a person who likes to be told what to believe, I love the freedom to explore and to choose and I am blessed to have been born in Canada to have that freedom.

These are also some of the reasons why I like Whole Health Ayurvedic Lifestyle teachings. They are based on a historic medical system that supports the freedom of the unique body mind to choose. They are intuitive and nature-based teachings. They reflect my own experience of life and the practices and tools empower individuals to be proactive with their own health and well being. The methods and theories (many now supported by medical science) are relatively easy to learn however, they are NOT a one size fits all or a quick fix. THIS is why it works. The method or practice that YOU would use is unique to YOU and YOUR needs, depending on where you are in life. When you learn about Whole Health - you learn to ways to evaluate and care for your unique body mind, your nutrition, emotional well being, the impact of your senses on your physiology, as well as the unique movement suited for your body mind. This is self care that your parents would have wanted to teach you, had they known about it.
